Bank Statement Converter: PDF to Excel, Done in Your Browser

Drop a bank statement PDF and get a clean spreadsheet back — dates, descriptions, debits, credits and running balance in separate columns, with amounts as real numbers. The file is read on your own machine. There is no server to send it to.

Three steps, no upload

  1. Drop the PDF

Drag it onto the box or click to pick a file. Your browser reads the bytes with PDF.js — the same open-source library Firefox uses to display PDFs.

  2. Check the preview

The table is rebuilt from the position of the text on the page. If a column came out wrong, click the cell and fix it, or change the column detection setting.

  3. Download

Save an .xlsx workbook or a .csv file. Amounts are written as numbers, so =SUM() and pivot tables work immediately.

Why the upload question matters

A bank statement is about the most sensitive document an ordinary person owns. It lists every merchant you paid, every salary you received, your account number and your address. Most online converters ask you to upload exactly that file to a server you know nothing about, keep it for "up to 24 hours", and monetise the moment of maximum leverage: the second before you get your spreadsheet.

PDF2Sheet removes the upload entirely. The conversion is a few hundred lines of JavaScript that runs in the tab you are already looking at. Close the tab and nothing remains. There is no retention policy because there is no retention.

You do not have to take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools (F12), switch to the Network tab, then convert a file. You will see the page's own assets and nothing else — no request carrying your PDF. The how it works page walks through it step by step.

What it handles well

Bank and card statements

Debit and credit split into their own columns, running balance preserved, reference and memo fields kept as text.

Invoices and receipts

Line items with quantity, unit price and amount. Letterheads, billing addresses and payment terms are dropped.

Reports and exports

Anything a system printed as a real table — trial balances, payroll registers, inventory lists, shipping manifests.

What it will not do

Questions people actually ask

Is my bank statement really not uploaded?

Correct. There is no upload endpoint in this application. The PDF is read with the File API and parsed by PDF.js inside the page, and the spreadsheet is generated in memory. You can confirm this in your browser's Network panel: convert a file and watch that no request carries its contents. The only network activity is loading this page's own files.

How accurate is the conversion?

For PDFs that contain real text, column boundaries are recovered from where each character sits on the page, so accuracy on ordinary statements is high. The failure modes are predictable: columns with no gap between them may merge, and a description that wraps onto a second line may become its own row unless the join setting catches it. The preview exists so you can see and fix this in seconds rather than discovering it in Excel.

Why did my file produce an error?

The most common reason is that the PDF is a scan — a photograph of paper saved as PDF. It has no text layer, so there is nothing to extract. The second most common is a password. The tool names which one it is instead of failing silently.

Is there a limit on file size or pages?

No artificial limit. The practical ceiling is your device's memory; the tool accepts files up to 80 MB, which covers multi-hundred-page statements. Nothing is metered, because serving you costs nothing.

Do the amounts come out as numbers or text?

Numbers. Values like 1,240.00, ($96.30) and 96.30- are parsed into real numeric cells, so totals work the moment the file opens. Identifiers that merely contain digits — account numbers, invoice numbers, ZIP codes with a leading zero — are deliberately left as text so their leading zeros survive.

What about my account number?

It stays in the same place it already was: on your device. Nothing is logged, because there is no logging to log to. If you would rather not have the account number in the spreadsheet at all, delete the cell in the preview before downloading.

Can I edit the table before downloading?

Yes. Every cell in the preview is editable. Click it, type the correction, and the export uses your version. That is usually faster than re-running the conversion with different settings.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in any modern browser on iOS or Android. Very large statements are more comfortable on a desktop simply because of screen space, but the conversion itself works the same.

How is this free?

The site is funded by unobtrusive display advertising. There is no paid tier, no file cap designed to push you toward one, and no data to sell — we never receive your documents in the first place.
